The cruelty with which some people treat dogs is really astounding. Riona, a kind dog, suffered the same agony as everyone else after being badly burned by her owner the previous year.
Nearly a year after the terrible accident, Riona is finally relocating to her new home.
Residents of Nutbush, Tennessee, saw a startling scene last June: Riona, a pitbull mix, ran down the street while engulfed in flames. The gas odor indicated that she had been purposefully set on fire.
“The only thing you could smell was gas,” Bluff City Veterinary Specialists’ Mallory Mclemore told the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
“She burned and had diesel gasoline all over her,” according to Ginger Natoli, founder of Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, who was quoted by Newsweek. She was reportedly set on fire by witnesses. A neighbor even provided us with ring camera footage that showed her running while burning.
Riona had an accident where she lost her ear, but thankfully, after receiving emergency care, surgeons were able to save her left eye. She was rescued by Tails of Hope Dog Rescue and treated by Bluff City Veterinary Specialists. She was given full body wraps twice a day to protect her skin as she recovered.
A TikTok video that told Riona’s story went viral, garnering millions of views and international sympathy.
In order to treat the severe burns that covered her entire body, Riona had to get numerous skin grafts during a challenging recovery period. Despite the fact that it was a very trying experience for her, many people said she remained cheerful during her recovery.
McLemore clarified, “She’s just wagging her tail all the time.” I guess that’s what exacerbates the situation. She just adores everyone.
Natoli told the Commercial Appeal, “She’s actually kind of cute with one ear.” “Her personality is cute because of it.”
them contributed money and gifts for Riona, and Tails of Hope kept them updated on the dog’s recovery.
Quishon Brown, 43, was taken into custody by police for allegedly lighting Riona on fire. In addition to two serious charges of animal cruelty and arson, the police have also charged him with a minor assault. The case is currently pending trial.
A Facebook post claims that Riona’s story helped Tennessee adopt a new law against animal abuse.
Over time, Riona’s condition steadily improved. Riona is preparing to move into her new house around a year after her burns!
Riona’s new permanent home will be ten hours away, according to Tails of Hope’s announcement.
“We wanted to find her a permanent home, and we achieved exactly that,” Natoli told the Commercial Appeal. Rona now has a big yard to run in, other dogs to play with, kids to play with, and a family that knows how to handle her medical issues and is understanding of her past issues.
We’re thrilled that Riona has found a new home after a year, but what a terrible ordeal this poor, cute puppy had to endure!
