Bruce Springsteen ramped up security for latest tour due to death threats, Steven Van Zandt reveales
Bruce Springsteen has been a vocal dissenter of Donald Trump’s administration, but the American icon has subsequently received an increasing number of death threats during his Land of Hope and Dreams Tour.
During the new tour with the E-Street band, which kicked off on March 31st in Minneapolis, the ‘Dancing in the Dark’ singer has consistently used his platform to call out the president’s actions, critiquing, among other things, the war in Iran and ICE immigration enforcement.
Now, Steven Van Zandt, Springsteen’s longtime guitarist in the E-Street Band, has revealed that the star of the show is increasingly under threat.
In a new interview with the Daily Mail, the guitarist revealed, “This tour has been a little bit different because of the high security.”

He added, “It’s a very specific political theme to this tour and there’s been a lot of threats, death threats. Usually there’s always some, but this time it’s been increasing.”
From the get-go, Springsteen promised that “the tour is going to be political and very topical about what’s going on in the country.”
Van Zandt revealed that Springsteen’s team has therefore “beefed up security” around the tour to ward off any potential threats.
“It’s not like we’re saying something that’s not true, or we’re saying something that’s so really particularly controversial, but it’s specifically political,” Van Zandt caveated.
He went on, “So the FBI and others have been really watching things and been overly concerned about it, as they should be. We want the fans to be safe and feel safe. So we really go the extra mile with extra security for that reason alone.”

Springsteen won’t need to worry about such danger for much longer, as the tour is set to conclude on May 30th in Philadelphia.
During his shows, Springsteen directly calls out Trump, declaring on stage to tens of thousands of fans, “You want to talk about snowflakes? We have a president who can’t handle the truth. This is happening now.”
