Reba McEntire Pleads With Fans To Help Save PBS From Federal Budget Cuts

Dating back to the late 1960s, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) looked to help educate millions of children around the country. Over the years, PBS aired shows like Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Barney & Friends, Arthur, Sesame Street, and several other memorable shows. Focused on education, the programming became a pillar for many generations. But recently, PBS faced a massive budget cut due to a new rescissions package heading to the Senate. Not wanting the programming to disappear, country singer Reba McEntire decided to call on her millions of fans to help support PBS.

Back in June, the rescissions package found its way to the House of Representatives. Among the package was an incentive to cut a staggering $1 billion in funding that went to help the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.  Having worked with PBS in the past and grateful for what the programming has done for the youth over the last four decades, Reba took a stand.

Sharing a video on social media, Reba cared little about the politics and simply asked for help. “Hey, it’s Reba. From my appearances on Austin City Limits in 1987, to South Pacific in Concert from Carnegie Hall in 2006, I’ve had a long relationship with PBS. Now, PBS needs our help. In just a few short days, the Senate is going to vote on a bill that would remove federal funding from PBS.”
