Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton Roll Into Kerrville With Supplies — and Songs — to Lift Spirits After Texas Floods

Posted on July 8, 2025 By admin

Kerrville, TX — As Texas struggles to recover from the devastating flash floods that swept through central Texas over the holiday weekend, two of country music’s most beloved stars — Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton — proved once again why they are not just queens of country, but also queens of compassion.

On Monday morning, residents of a relief shelter in Kerrville were stunned to see Reba and Dolly pulling up in a pickup truck stacked high with relief supplies — water, food, blankets — and two guitars leaning against the cab.

“These families need us,” Reba was heard saying to Dolly as they loaded boxes into the truck earlier that morning. “Homes are gone, families scattered — we can’t just sit here.”

Dolly, never one to shy away from lending a hand, replied with her trademark warmth:

“You’re right. Let’s get to Kerrville, hand out what we can, and maybe even bring them a little hope while we’re at it.”

The catastrophic floods, which struck without warning following days of relentless rain, have claimed at least 78 lives — including 28 children — and left dozens still missing. Thousands have been displaced, many with nothing left but the clothes on their backs.

Governor Greg Abbott declared a state of emergency and called the floods “one of the darkest days in Texas history.”

In the midst of the heartbreak, the quiet arrival of two country legends gave weary residents something to smile about.

Hands-On Help

Shelter volunteers say Reba and Dolly didn’t hesitate to roll up their sleeves as soon as they arrived — unloading cases of bottled water, helping families sort through clothing donations, and stopping to comfort tearful children.

“They weren’t here for show,” said one volunteer. “They were here to help. Reba hugged one lady for what felt like forever while she cried, and Dolly sat with a group of little girls and told them stories to keep their minds off everything.”

Songs in the Dark

Later that afternoon, Reba and Dolly were persuaded to do what they do best — sing. Standing in the corner of the shelter, guitars in hand, they performed a handful of heartfelt songs, including “Coat of Many Colors” and “Fancy.”

Many in the crowd wiped away tears as they sang along, some for the first time feeling a glimmer of hope amid the devastation.

“That was just what we needed,” said one mother. “Even just for a few minutes, it felt like everything was going to be okay.”

Why They Came

Both Reba and Dolly have long histories of philanthropy. Reba has supported families through her Reba’s Ranch House for decades, and Dolly’s Imagination Library has put millions of books in the hands of children around the world.

But for them, showing up in person was personal.

“You don’t just sing about love and faith,” Reba said quietly before leaving. “You live it. That’s what Texans do.”

Dolly agreed, adding:

“Music can heal. But so can kindness. We just wanted to remind them they’re not alone in this.”

A Legacy of Love

News of their visit quickly spread online, with fans praising the two as “true queens of country and queens of hearts.”

Governor Abbott also issued a statement thanking them:

“Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton embody the best of what it means to be a Texan and an American — showing up when it matters most.”

Conclusion: A Little Hope in Kerrville

As the sun set over Kerrville Monday evening, the shelter’s residents were still talking about the surprise visit — and still humming the melodies Reba and Dolly left behind.

For families who lost everything to the floods, the sight of two country legends with open arms and warm voices was more than just help — it was hope.

“We’ll rebuild,” one man said with a tired smile. “And tonight, thanks to them, I believe it.”
