Music Legend Trashed by His Home State’s NewspaperRock legend Bruce Springsteen has made his feelings about President Donald Trump very clear. He cannot tolerate the current occupant of the White House. Trump, for his part, apparently loathes the “Tunnel of Love” singer just as much. From time to time, they have gone after each other with nasty barbs galore. Now, the Boss’s home state news outlet has jumped in and blasted the artist.
Rock legend Bruce Springsteen has made his feelings about President Donald Trump very clear. He cannot tolerate the current occupant of the White House. Trump, for his part, apparently loathes the “Tunnel of Love” singer just as much. From time to time, they have gone after each other with nasty barbs galore. Now, the Boss’s home state news outlet has jumped in and blasted the artist.
On Tuesday, April 21, NJ.com published a scathing piece titled “Springsteen’s N.J. concert was poisoned by hypocrisy. Anti-Trump final act is a tragic mistake.” The outlet then noted that Springsteen, at his concert in Newark, New Jersey, on Monday, launched into the same statement slamming our top leadership that he has given many times previously.
The Rocker Railed Against Trump
Springsteen reportedly said, “The America I love, the America that I’ve written about for 50 years that has been a beacon of hope and liberty around the world is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, racist, reckless and treasonous administration.”
Additionally, he reportedly mentioned, “Tonight we ask all of you to join with us in choosing hope over fear, democracy over authoritarianism, the rule of law over lawlessness, ethics over unbridled corruption, resistance over complacency, truth over lies, unity over division, and peace over war.” The word “war” was the signal for Springsteen’s band to play Edwin Starr’s pulsating ’70s track of that name.
Springsteen’s Home State Outlet Wasn’t Buying Any of It
The piece blisteringly intoned, “One problem: It’s all hypocritical crap.” The article went on to say, “Profiteering over legitimate protest. Springsteen’s artistic identity, as a bleeding-heart populist who sings for the destitute and downtrodden, has never been more disconnected from his economic behavior as a touring act or businessman.”
The crux of the argument with Bruce Springsteen is the “exorbitant” price he charged for the choicest tickets to his Monday show. The cost of the best seat in the house was allegedly “up to $2900 retail.” “No Kings” flags were available for purchase for a cool $90 bucks “in the arena concourse.” So the man of the people seems to be catering to those with the deepest pockets.
Will It Put a Dent in His Legacy?
Furthermore, the article noted that Brice Springsteen is, in the writer’s opinion, diminishing the legacy he has built over the course of many decades. “His impulse, to preserve his standing as rock’s last great prophet in the most commercial way imaginable, is shameful….”

Fans will ultimately cast their vote on this issue with their presence or absence at Bruce Springsteen;s concerts. Whether his actions and ticket prices will besmirch his reputation is still an open question. And just in case you were wondering, Celebrity Net Worth claims that he’s worth $750 million. (Forbes puts it at an even higher figure.) Interpret that against the backdrop of Springsteen’s social activism and voice-of-the-people stance as you wish.
