As floodwaters rose, so did the sorrow. Entire towns were swallowed in minutes, families were torn apart, and the heart of Texas has been left aching in the wake of one of the most devastating natural disasters in state history. Over 129 lives lost. More than 170 still missing. And thousands left with nothing but the clothes on their backs and prayers whispered into the night. “There’s a place up yonder for the innocent to go…”

TEXAS STRONG, HEARTS BROKE: 💔 As floodwaters rose, so did the sorrow.

TEXAS STRONG, HEARTS BROKE: 💔 As floodwaters rose, so did the sorrow.

But even through the heartbreak, something sacred remains.

In the face of such unimaginable loss, music becomes more than just sound — it becomes shelter. And few songs have given voice to our collective grief more powerfully than George Strait’s haunting ballad, “I Believe.”

“There’s a place up yonder for the innocent to go…”

Those words now feel heavier… and holier. As families gather in churches-turned-shelters, as strangers embrace like brothers, and as candles are lit along muddy riverbanks, “I Believe” is being played — not just in homes and on radios, but in hearts.

Because when everything else has been taken, faith is what we hold on to.

The song, originally written after the Sandy Hook tragedy, was never meant to be just entertainment. It was a response to unspeakable sorrow — just like what Texas is living through now. And just as George sang it then with trembling reverence, today it echoes with even greater meaning.

“I believe in angels, something good in everything I see…”

We see those angels now:
— First responders pulling children from rooftops.
— Church volunteers cooking for families they’ve never met.
— Teenagers with flashlights guiding the elderly to safety.
— And small-town heroes who don’t wear capes — they just show up, again and again, with love.

This week, Texas is on its knees — but not in defeat. In prayer. In remembrance. And in strength.

Because though hearts are broken, the spirit of this state is unbreakable.

So let “I Believe” be more than a song. Let it be our anthem of remembrance. Of faith. Of resilience.

And to the ones we’ve lost:
We will remember your names.
We will rebuild with your memory in every brick.
And we will sing — even through tears — because love is louder than any storm.
